As architecture students at the Université Catholique de Louvain, we are fortunate enough to experience what has become now a tradition in our faculty. For quite some time now, promotion of the Faculté d’architecture, d’ingénieurie architecturale et d’urbanisme, LOCI Tournai, Belgium has implemented the studio of the visiting professor, in which we have the opportunity of being taught by a renowned architect and experience their ideology for one semester.
In the Master level, years 1 and 2 are divided into three thematic workshops for the studio, where architectural projects are developed. The three workshops are distinguished by three different views of architecture and the students are invited to choose the option that closest matches their vision of the business. Evidently, although they evolve differently, these workshops have the same purpose, which is to provide the best education for future young architects.
In the second semester, all Master 1 students temporarily leave their workshops to join in a collective exercise organized by their teachers, but primarily by the invited professor. This year, the workshop has been led by Winy Maas (MVRDV) and Felix Madrazo from ‘The Why Factory’. It has been in their company and guidance that we have had the pleasure of working on the theme of “BiodiverCity”, so we are truly thankful for their participation and dedication. We would like to thank our teachers Ludovic Blanckaert, Jérôme De Alzua and Ewa Sokolowska for sharing their expertise and guidance as well throughout the evolution of this project.
